Open email (mailto:) links with Gmail in Chrome

“I used to avoid clicking on email links on the web because an application on my computer that I never used would pop up and interrupt me. Instead, I would copy the email address, switch to Gmail, click compose and paste it in.” read more

From now, I can tell Chrome to use Gmail as my email application and any link with an email address will be opened as  a compose window in Gmail.

Just visit from Chrome, you will be asked to “Allow Gmail to open all email links”

Click ‘Use Gmail” button and try the below link to see what happens.

Orkut gets iPhone App, Google plus badge

Recently Google has released a new iPhone and Android apps for Orkut.

iphone_app_blog.png (149×290)

Since Google plus is now the new Social networking site from Google (which is now 90 million+), I expected Orkut users will be moved to Google plus (either automatically or after permission).

But, Google is releasing new apps for iPhone/Android, and now, you can get an Orkut badge saying ‘This user has a Google+ account’. I can’t understand what is Google’s plan with Orkut. Most my Orkut friends are not active. Orkut now looks uglier when compared to Google Plus / FB. I have not yet deleted my orkut account, but would like Google to shutdown Orkut completely and educate users to move to Google+, rather than maintaining two different Social networks.

Chrome extension to Share on Google plus pages

Download ‘Share on Google Plus Page’ Chrome extension

128For Google+ page owners, sharing web content on their Google plus pages will become simpler.

For sharing web pages as one of your Google+ pages,  there was no simple way to do directly.

You need to copy the URL, switch to your own Google+ Profile, then to the desired page and then share from there.

This extension makes it simpler. You need to setup your pages to this extension for the first time.

1. Install the extension Share on Google Plus Page and click on the extension icon.

2. Click on ‘Define my Google+ pages’ button.

3. Provide you Google+ page id’s and names (upto 5 pages – in addition to your own Profile), and Save it.

4. Now you will see the page names in the select button

5. Use the combo box select button to switch among your Profile and Pages.

- You have to select the "Share on Google+" field to start sharing the web page.
- You DON’T need to publicly +1 the page to Share it on Google Plus.
(though it says ‘You publicly +1′d’, you actually don’t)

You can circle me or my blog’s Google+ pages.

Please pass your valuable feedback / improvement ideas for this extension as a direct message. exposes user’s email id, name, address

flipkartI am a new Flipkart user. I very much like Flipkart for the wide range of products available, low price, 24 x 7 customer care, in-time delivery. By looking at Flipkart’s facebook page which has more than 850k people following, I believe Flipkart will have a minimum of 1 million users.

I recently ordered a Canon Lide 110 scanner from Flipkart, and got a email next day with a link to track my order.  The order tracking page has details about shipping to help us to track where the package is. I wanted to quickly check if the order page is available only for my login session or for anyone in the web. Shockingly, the url works for anyone, and it is even enabled for search engine crawling.

Just a simple google search will give you a lot of Flipkart order details. From these links, you will notice

- The email id of the user is available in the url of tracking page

- User’s name, City, Pin code available in the tracking page

Below is just a few of the Flipkart user’s order details available in public.

I would recommend Flipkart to do one of the following to ensure users’ privacy.

- Make the order tracking page available only for the signed in user who made that order

- or, at least Remove these order tracking pages from Google’s search results (How to do this)

I am also sending this post as an email to to take an action.

Got an immediate response from Flipkart CEO saying they will soon fix this.
